    Life is Interesting
Today's been a fairly interesting day. Classes were classes, like usual. I got the chance to eat lunch with friends today, which was a very, very nice change for me!! ♥ My Linguistics class got out about 15 minutes early today so I didn't have to book it from LSH to MAK today. Definitely a nice change, and I had a few minutes to sit down in Spanish class before class actually started. Very nice change. I certainly liked it. I came home, fixed supper, then played DDR for about a half hour. That was good too.

Ummm...it's snowing out? Snow is pretty. That is all!

Working actually isn't that bad. Everyone's thrilled to have me back at that store. They even said they were glad I'd come back and that they needed the help, so that's a bonus for me. Standing on my feet for eight and a half hours is painful by the end of the night, but I'll get used to it again. Besides, it's only for next week and then up until the 6th. I think I can handle a week and a half more of this, don't you? It's decent money and lots and lots of hours. I think this week I was scheduled for close to fifty hours and next week I've got about forty since I have three days off due to Meijer actually not being open for Christmas! And I'll have earlier hours next week, minus New Year's Eve, so yay for that. But I'm working 3-11 on New Year's Eve. Meh. Do I ever get to spend New Year's Eve with my family again?

At least Christmas Eve I'm only scheduled til 9, but more than likely I'll be off around 7:45 or 8, since the store closes at 7. And since I'm in jewelry, there really isn't much for me to do then after the customers leave. I do finally have all of my Christmas presents, but I just have to wrap them all between now and Sunday, haha. I'll find the time to do it, I'm sure!

I must have done really well on my Linguistics final, that's all I have to say. My rough calculation for my grade before finals was a C+. Now it's a B! That's absolutely amazing and it makes me so very, very happy. And I must have done well on my Brit Lit final, too, because I was totally expecting a C- or a D+ that I would have to explain to my parents come Thursday. But no! A C+! You have no idea how happy that makes me! I swear I must have done well studying this term or SOMETHING to do that well on those finals! All of my grades aren't posted yet, but the two that aren't are A's.

    Criminal Justice= A
    Teaching Writing= B
    Linguistics 261= B
    American Lit= B-
    British Lit= C+
    Marching Band= A

That's absolutely amazing. You have no idea how thrilled that makes me that I managed not one B but three! And I kept my 3.0! Barely, but I kept it! It's good enough for now! I'm taking more Spanish classes next semester, so hopefully I'll be able to yank that grade point up again with Spanish classes.

Anyway, I have work today from 2:30-11. Yep. Meijer's sucking me back in right away like always.

Alabama was amazing. Warm, sunny, seventy degree weather in the middle of December. Absolutely amazing. The football game was great. We won, obviously, 17-14, though the game wasn't as close as it was last year. For that, of course, we're all thankful!

    Why Trees Are Dead...
I think I know why trees are dying. Teachers, haha. I just printed out a whole bunch of stuff for my ENG 310 presentation tomorrow. And when I say a whole ton of stuff, I mean it! Nearly two hundred or more pages of paper for only 13 people, and that's just one assignment that I had to create! I swear up and down the stack of paper is 2 inches thick alone. Yeah. I'm going to have so much fun lugging that to class on Monday.

Anyway. That's now done. Check, one. I've briefly studied for Criminal Justice and for Linguistics. I'm nearly done with my paper. Woot. Yes. I've been busy this weekend, can't you tell? Plus, I went out to the grocery store with Jessica and I now have things to start getting together Christmas cards for people. I want to try to have those out by Thursday-ish, if not this upcoming weekend.

Speaking of which, I don't have to feel guilty about the whole changing the date of the Yule Ball. It would have bothered me a lot if we didn't wind up winning Saturday's game and didn't wind up playing in a week. As it turns out, we're playing Delta State University on Sunday. Well, I'm now off to reward myself and will be watching the second The Librarian movie!

    Hell Week...
I think I'm declaring this week officially Hell Week. Here's what I must do, before Wednesday of next week. So it's not even a full week. I have a full 20-25 minute presentation to practice for by Monday for my Teaching Writing class. This mostly means I need to figure out which paper I'm presenting to the class and add/take away whatever is necessary and rehearse actually teaching it to someone or even just to the mirror. On Tuesday, it's basically hell day. I have the last quiz we have to take in Linguistics. I also have a test immediately following that in Criminal Justice (also the last test.) By this time, as well, I have to type up four Issue assignments. Granted, these are short papers involving some random topic assigned by my Criminal Justice professor, but they still take time and must be done by Tuesday. I also have a fairly important 6-8 page paper for British Lit that's due on Tuesday as well. Between now and Tuesday, in no particular order, I will eventually have to: meet with my professor to talk about my current draft of my essay for Brit Lit, attend the North Dakota vs. Grand Valley football game on Saturday, find some time in between to do laundry, go to the Harry Potter club meeting and I think that's finally it. Yes. Definitely I'm in for a very, very long weekend. Wish me luck. I think I'll need all the help I can get.

Please help! We're trying to get one of my friends from high school, who now attends Grand Valley and also attended the Classics professor lecture the other week, to venture into the world of Harry Potter. She enjoyed the lecture but never has touched a Harry Potter book before! GASP. Anyway! For those of you who have a facebook account, please join the group! We already have her reading 6 chapters! HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE!

    (Avada Kedevra)

    Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006
    5:55 pm
    Clean!
Campus is pretty empty with everyone gone already for Thanksgiving break. I'm not leaving until tomorrow morning, since my aunt is having Thanksgiving dinner in Muskegon. It makes no sense for me to drive all the way across the state today, only to drive back tomorrow and drive back home, then drive back some time on Friday afternoon since I have to be back early Saturday morning for marching rehearsal. It makes no sense whatsoever for me to do that! So I get to see not only my parents and my sister but my grandparents as well tomorrow! It should be exciting, if nothing else!

I've spent the last three or four hours cleaning the apartment. How could one small apartment get that dirty? Quite easily and quite simple! The floors are spotless. There's no more mold growing in the bathroom. The fridge is cleaned out and I've vacuumed all the floors at least twice to get all the dirt off them. I've never felt this good about cleaning everything, though part of my decision to clean could have been because of the really warm and beautiful weather today! It was absolutely gorgeous! I walked around campus earlier today after Jessica left for home because it was so nice out and there were very few people out and about. I almost forgot what campus was like once everyone started leaving for home! And LeeAnn, in case you do check your livejournal while you're home, your fish are doing well! I think they like being near a window!

Anyway, with all that accomplished, I think I'm going to figure out what I'm cooking for dinner and then I will probably get started on some of the homework that I want to finish before the end of break. And if anyone wants a Christmas card, leave me your name or address in an e-mail or something at here. Hopefully everyone will have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I look forward to seeing everyone again on Monday! (Or Saturday, for some!) If anyone gets the chance, you should definitely come back to campus at least for Saturday afternoon to watch the Lakers take on the South Dakota Coyotes!

    You are The High Priestess

    Science, Wisdom, Knowledge, Education.

The High Priestess is the card of knowledge, instinctual, supernatural, secret knowledge. She holds scrolls of arcane information that she might, or might not reveal to you. The moon crown on her head as well as the crescent by her foot indicates her willingness to illuminate what you otherwise might not see, reveal the secrets you need to know. The High Priestess is also associated with the moon however and can also indicate change or fluxuation, particularily when it comes to your moods.

    Productive
Today was actually really productive, even with having my usual three classes! I went to Linguistics, though I didn't learn much of anything new today. Criminal Justice was as it always is. I actually taught about a half hour in my British Lit class with a classmate, so that was pretty amazing. I think our professor liked our presentation. She seemed to agree with us on every point we made, so that was a plus. Then, I came home and Jessica and I wound up going to McDonald's for supper. After that I started cleaning and only just now finished. I think that was just about 7 when I started and it's now 8:45. Yeah, lots of cleaning! The bathroom is relatively spotless and you can see the kitchen and living room floors again. Yay we have a table again too! All the dishes were done as well. So, that put me in a really good mood.

And I've just finished a homework assignment that's not due until November 14th, because it was easy and it could be done. I've also re-read the last two chapters of Linguistics just to make sure I can understand the material that's there. I've finally caught up with all the chaos that I had to deal with when all of my teachers had papers due in the same week! Yay for getting about 10 papers written in one week! I honestly can say that I've got three or four free hours of time on my hands now. And, oddly enough, I feel odd not having to do anything or rush to finish things. Maybe it's because we didn't have a Tuesday night rehearsal today. I'm not sure. I'm just glad that I had this time to catch up. And I've already taken a shower tonight too, so what to do with my free time?

I think I'm going to work ahead on my homework, honestly. I'm going to start reading the section of my Brit Lit literature that I have to have read before I can come up with a theme for my next paper, so that way, I can make sure to take it to my professor for advice. I'm also going to start on my re-write for my American Lit paper, because I know I can pull off the A in that class. And, if I've even got more time after that, I'll play DDR for a bit before bed! Yes, yes, today's been a really productive day. I still have to work on my proposal for themes, but I can always perfect that over the weekend when I don't have homework that I can work ahead on. Yay for being prepared!

I should have a Hermione icon for this. But Draco works just as well.

    Grades
DONE! My essay for Brit Lit is finally finished and done with! I couldn't be happier that I've completed an essay. I know I won't get a perfect grade on it and am really only expecting a C on this paper. It's not my best work and it doesn't really deserve too much more than that, but for some reason I couldn't find anything to write about for the topic I selected a while back. I thought that I could manage to pull off finding something. Maybe it's just me going through and thinking that I should have been able to come up with something more brilliant than what I've managed to come up with for this paper. Oh well. At least I'll learn how this professor grades for next time.

    Semi-Productive weekend!
So yay, a semi-productive weekend. The apartment has been mostly cleaned. All that's left to clean is the stuff that is left out from making the cookies for the Harry Potter club on Thursday. But as long as that's gone by Friday, I'm good. I might actually get to see my mom this next weekend, too! Yay! I haven't really seen her since August, since our family reunion that I went to. I've seen my dad for a few hours a couple of times, but that's about it. It will be nice to see them for a weekend-ish. Well, for the game on Saturday. Battle of the Valleys officially starts today. I may want to purchase one of the Battle tee-shirts, just because I can and I didn't bother with it last year. Being 22-0 with a winning football team nationally recognized is something I'll remember forever. Especially since we've got the longest winning streak of all collegiate football. Just Division II football, says all the Division I teams. Ha. But they can't manage to win as many games as Grand Valley, because we're awesome like that. Anyway.

I love DDR. I just got done playing about an hour of it. And most of my homework's been done this weekend, too. I still have my paper to finish for Brit Lit, since for some reason it's not cooperating.

More walking is good, yet less time is bad. They've moved the marching practice field to Lot D. I have classes at 6 at this end of campus and rehearsal ends at 5. Guess I'll wind up eating after 9 or bringing food to rehearsal with me. Whichever works. Oh well? At least we won't have the Tuesday rehearsal for much longer. Tuesday will be no fun. I have class til 5:15, rehearsal at 6. Should be interesting. Is the southeast corner of Lot D around D10? I'm only assuming here. Even though that's technically the northeast corner of campus. Hmm. Interesting.

    A) Four jobs I have had in my life:
    1. babysitter

    1. Lord of the Rings, all three extended!
    2. The Sixth Sense, because as horror movies go, it's great
    3. First two Harry Potters, since they were actually mostly canon
    4. Original Star Wars, because they're so much better than the most recent three.

*I could add more to this list, as I absolutely love horror/sci-fi movies and fantasy type movies, but you get the picture, I think. The Hannibal series (especially Red Dragon) and Fight Club are among my favourites. Oh, and Memento, if you've never seen it. See? I can keep listing!

    C) Four places you have lived:
    1. Euclid, Ohio, not that I remember. I was only six weeks old when we moved to Michigan!

    3. French silk pie
    4. pastas, of any kind

    H) Four places I would rather be right now

    Things are looking up...
Well, things are looking fairly well! So far, I actually have an A in a quasi-science related course: Criminal Justice! I'm excited, definitely. I have a B+ in Linguistics, which I've been told is a fairly hard course, especially the first time around. Then again, I tend to be the opposite of quite a lot of people so it's only fair and right that I wind up taking the harder course in English and doing well, isn't it? Ha.

I do need ideas for exercise though. Walks are good, but I can only do those every so often in the evening especially since I have evening classes more often than not. Oh, and to anyone who's interested, my mom seemed to have been guilty over the fact that she couldn't come up to the game this weekend and handed us a whole fridge full, freezer full and cupboards full of food. Yeah, almost too much to go through in one week! So we could definitely use some help in finishing it all off. Kiersten and I were thinking of maybe a dinner night, hopefully Tuesday since I have evening classes Monday and Wednesday. Not sure how everyone else's schedule works out!

Although, I do have to say that Grand Valley is amazing, despite what the Division I schools have to say. Our marching band rocks hard core, simply because we have students coming to see us who are skipping other things just because they want to watch us perform. And need I congratulate the football team on yet another win, leaving us with the longest running active winning streak in all of college football? Go LAKERS!

    Lost Season 3
I know there are a few of you on my flist who follow LOST...what did you all think of the Season 3 premiere? Personally, I was still curious, though I'm starting to figure things out a bit more quickly than anything else!

Mini-Spoiler, nothing too important, but I'll put it under a cut anyway just in case you haven't seen the episode yet!

You know what's rather ironic? More people had posted about Steve Irwin's death than the fact that today is September 11th. I remember how just a few years ago, that was everything and anything that was talked about leading up to this date. Maybe it's just me, I'm not sure. I'm not trying to minimize anything that happened, just pointing out random and probably useless information that I've noticed lately. Is it wrong of me to feel odd wishing my own grandfather a happy birthday just because of today's date? It's not as strange as it once was. I remember when it happened, we never did celebrate his birthday that year. What difference does it make? His birthday still passes, irregardless of what's happened on that date. Twenty years from now it might be different, but twenty years from now my grandfather may not even be here. The last thing I want to do is wait twenty years until it becomes "normal" again to wish my grandfather a happy birthday on 9-11!

School is...nothing spectacular, though I do love all of my classes this year. I'm just used to it now. It's something that needs to be done and the thrill of going to college is almost wearing off. Not, of course, that I don't absolutely love being here at Grand Valley, but the idea of being a student here is just normal now. I'm here, and that's that! And I'll be a senior next semester, so that'll be all kinds of awesome.

I'm also uberly excited for the game on Saturday. It's our first game of the season, against Ashland. Everyone should definitely come! ^_^ You know I'll be there!!!!

Have you ever wondered what people might think of you whenever you aren't there? Have you ever wondered what everyone says behind your back, even if they claim that they won't say anything bad at all? I'm hardly going to do anything to change it, but I can't help but wonder what people honestly think of me. So here's your chance to tell me and yes, I want everyone on my flist to respond! I won't bite or chew your head off or anything at all. If you really know me, you know I'll probably just shrug and say, "Hey, okay, thanks for letting me know the truth!"

    Anyway, reply here with:

    1.) A compliment
2.) An insult (it can be about anything!)
3.) Your first impression of me, and/or how your impression's changed once you've gotten to know me
4.) Something you think I could improve about myself, anything at all!

Please be honest and reply! Thanks a million!
